On Tuesday, June 10th we have scheduled a tour of Liberty Island with the National Park Service and a presentation by Ellis Island Institute staff on resources, pedagogy and strategies that you can take back to the classroom to teach about Ellis Island. Lunch will be included during this time period. We are pleased to announce that we have arranged for the Save Ellis Island Staff to conduct a tour of Ellis Island’s un-restored south-side buildings (rarely open to the public) and for a NPS Ranger led tour of the Ellis Island Immigration Museum.
Our schedule currently has us leaving Ellis Island at 3:00 PM; as you are aware our afternoon is free for visiting other selected sites in NYC (list available @ http://utahteacher.weebly.com/uploads/1/2/2/0/12206100/things_to_do_in_nyc.pdf) Our guides at Ellis Island have graciously offered to be available beyond our planned time for those of you who wish to stay longer at Ellis Island for 1) extending your visit to the South Side (this is a unique and rare opportunity) of Ellis Island and/or 2) assisting you with individual research at Ellis Island. Please note this need not impact you if you wish to return to NYC; conversely our docents at Ellis Island has asked that we let them know if anyone is interested in either of these two other options so that they in turn can have specialists ready to assist you.
