Primary Document Reading Strategy

Participants will complete a Guided Reading Notes strategy to improve both reading comprehension and interaction with the text. Reading Comprehension strategies are conscious plans i.e. sets of steps that good readers use to make sense of and interact with a text. Good reading strategies help readers become purposeful, active readers who are in control of their own reading comprehension. More experienced readers are commonly able to subconsciously make connections, ask and answer questions, and monitor their comprehension; but the process is not intuitive and therefore must be taught and practiced. Color coded note taking conceptualize the process of making learning from a text tangible for the reader. Color coded note taking can also provide informative data for instructors.
